NFC Tags
NFC tags are the fastest way to complete a task or add a log entry in TappRFID. Once a tag is linked, you tap your phone to the sticker — no unlocking, no menus.
Compatible tags
Section titled “Compatible tags”TappRFID works with standard NFC NTAG213, NTAG215, or NTAG216 stickers. These are widely available and inexpensive. Any NFC sticker that supports NDEF records will work.
Linking a tag to a task
Section titled “Linking a tag to a task”- Open a task in the Tasks tab.
- Tap Link NFC Tag.
- Hold an NFC sticker near the top of your iPhone.
- Wait for the write confirmation tone and banner.
- The tag ID is now stored on the task.
Linking a tag to a log
Section titled “Linking a tag to a log”- Open a log in the Logs tab.
- Tap Link NFC Tag.
- Hold a sticker near the top of your iPhone and wait for confirmation.
Using a linked tag
Section titled “Using a linked tag”Hold your phone near the sticker. TappRFID opens in the foreground, completes the task or adds a log entry, and shows a confirmation. The whole flow takes under two seconds.
Multiple tags per task
Section titled “Multiple tags per task”A single task can have multiple NFC tags linked. This is useful if you keep different stickers in different locations — for example, one on your coffee maker and one on your bathroom mirror.
To add a second tag:
- Open the task.
- Tap Add Another NFC Tag.
- Scan the new sticker.
Removing a tag
Section titled “Removing a tag”- Open the task or log.
- Tap Linked Tags.
- Swipe left on the tag ID to remove it.
Where to place tags
Section titled “Where to place tags”Some placement ideas:
| Tag location | Linked task |
|---|---|
| Bathroom mirror | Brush teeth, skin care |
| Coffee maker | Morning routine, medication |
| Fridge | Vitamins, supplements |
| Gym bag | Workout, pack bag |
| Desk | Water intake, posture check |
| Nightstand | Wind-down routine |
Troubleshooting NFC
Section titled “Troubleshooting NFC”Tag not detected:
- Hold the phone near the top third of the back (where the NFC antenna is).
- Remove any thick cases — some cases block NFC.
- Check that NFC is enabled: Settings → General → NFC.
Tag writes fail:
- The tag may be locked (write-protected by a previous device).
- Try a new, blank sticker.
- Don’t move the phone during the write process.
Wrong task completes:
- Each tag can only be linked to one item per scan. If a tag was previously linked to a different task, remove it from the old task first and re-link it.
Simulator behaviour
Section titled “Simulator behaviour”When running in the Xcode Simulator or on a device without NFC, TappRFID shows a simulated NFC scan view for testing purposes. Tags are not actually read or written.
iPhone compatibility
Section titled “iPhone compatibility”NFC tag reading requires iPhone 7 or later. NFC background tag reading (without opening the app first) requires iPhone XS or later running iOS 14+.
